Solo Travel Guide

Experiences

  • always check if there’s a student/discount price!
  • museums are perfect places to spend time before hotel/hostel check-ins — often there are lockers to store belongings (in this case, luggage!)
  • utilize google maps to pinpoint destinations
    • I love using my pinpoints to guide where I go each day –> ideal for spontaneous yet thoughtful adventures
  • Pack light! (but enough to have at least 3 outfits)
    • plus leave room for souvenirs!
  • Keep an eye out for free postcards and pamphlets
    • once you start looking you’ll see them everywhere!
  • Have some cash on hand –> just in case a museum or establishment only takes cash

Hostels

  • bring your own padlock for the lockers, some quality earplugs, shower shoes, and anything else to increase comfort levels
  • be prepared for many snoring roommates who mostly don’t speak English
  • [for non-men] consider booking a bed in an all-female suite
  • do your research for lodging to find the best deals on price and quality!

Travel

  • always spend the extra bit for an assigned train seat
  • if taking a sleeper train: pay for a bed!
  • bring a portable charger, train outlets are only reliable 50% of the time
  • bring more snacks than you think you’ll need
    • you can always eat them later 🙂
